Situated at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level, Naltar is the most beautiful nearest day outing from Gilgit. This trek takes us to see three mountain ranges of the Karakorum, Hindu Raj and the Hindukush.
We drive on the left bank of Hunza River to Nomal Village and turn left to drive over rough jeep road to Naltar. Upper Naltar is the loveliest point. While on one side of the valley it has terraced potato fields, the other is a beautiful green slope full of tall pine trees. Here Pakistan Air Force has a ski training centre. |

| Starting our trek at Naltar, we will pitch our tents besides the crystal clear water of Naltar Lake. A day can be spent at the lake. Then trek to Shani, the upper most summer settlement of Gujars and the base of Naltar Pass (4200 meters). From lower Shani, one can cross Dainter Pass (4636 m) to Bar Valley of Nager. Until Shani we will pass by shepherds with their flocks at higher meadows. We will then cross Naltar Pass (4267 m) to Trang. From the top, there are beautiful views of Rakaposhi, Nanga Parbat and countless other peaks of all three ranges. End trek at Chatorkhand Village in Ishkoman Valley and jeep to Gilgit. |
