Nanga Parbat (8126 m) the local name means the `Naked Mountain', is the 2nd highest peak in Pakistan and 9th highest in the world but perhaps the most challenging peak. It is also known as the 'Killer Mountain' because it has killed mountaineers more than any other peak. Hermann Buhl was the first successful climber to scale Nanga Parbat in 1953. |

Situated at the western end of the mighty Himalayan range, it offers a striking contrast as its south and eastern flanks are lush green with dense forest while the north and western flanks are mostly dry. Two of the three routes to the base of Nanga Parbat (south and north faces), offer excellent treks with magnificent views through dense pine forests. There is another possibility of visiting all three base camps around Nanga Parbat including a traverse over Mazeno Pass. |
